But I think the world is just listening — waiting for the first song of winter to begin.

It started here, in a quiet corner of the woods near Royden Park. The branches were heavy with frost, each one glittering like silver lace. Even my favourite oak, old and kind, had gone still beneath its snowy crown.

That’s when I saw it — a glow between the trees. Not the sunrise, not a star — but a lantern, resting in the snow. Its flame was small and green-gold, just like the Greengatherer’s.

I hopped closer. The light flickered gently, and the snow around it shimmered like tiny mirrors. It wasn’t a forgotten lantern at all — it was waiting.

So I sang. A winter song — soft and round, the kind you can hear even with mittened ears.

And do you know what happened? The trees answered. Not with voices, but with light — a slow, rising shimmer that moved from root to branch, from snow to sky.

I realised then that the lantern wasn’t meant to be found by one explorer — it was meant to remind us all. That warmth doesn’t only live in fire. That stories don’t sleep in winter. That even in the quiet, the world remembers us.

When I flew home, the light followed me — just a thread of gold through the white air, leading the way.

So if you ever find a glow in the snow — don’t be afraid to look closer. It might be one of the Greengatherer’s lanterns, keeping watch until spring.

🕊️ Try This, Little Explorer:

Go for a winter walk and see what shines when the world seems cold.
