The Greengatherer says Thurstaston is where \u201cthe land remembers the sea,\u201d and I think he\u2019s right \u2014 the wind tastes a little salty, and even the trees lean toward the waves. But before we reach the shining shore, we\u2019ll begin where the woods whisper and the branches weave together \u2014 Royden Park.<\/p>

Base Camp: The Heart of the Woods<\/strong><\/p>

Every explorer needs a base camp, and this is ours! Among the tall oaks and soft moss, we\u2019ll build a den from fallen branches and imagination.<\/p>

<\/p>

Look around \u2014 the forest floor is full of treasure if you know where to look: Twigs that bend but don\u2019t break, Leaves big enough to patch a roof, and moss that feels like nature\u2019s carpet. Stack the branches carefully so they lean together, then crawl inside.<\/p>

Can you smell the earth? Hear the wind in the leaves?<\/em><\/p>

<\/p>

The Greengatherer once told me that every den is a home for stories. Sit quietly inside, and you might hear one - the creak of an old branch, the rustle of a squirrel tail, or maybe even my song in the distance.<\/p>

Things to Discover<\/strong><\/p>

\ud83c\udf42<\/span> Find your perfect branch: not too heavy, not too straight \u2014 the kind that feels like it already belongs to your den.<\/p>

\u00a0\ud83c\udf30<\/span> Search for autumn signs: a cracked conker, a squirrel trail, a golden leaf that shines like the sun.<\/p>

\ud83e\udeb5<\/span> Give your den a name: something secret, something brave \u2014 every explorer\u2019s shelter deserves one.<\/p>

\ud83d\udc3e<\/span> Look for tracks: maybe a squirrel, a rabbit, or one of my tiny footprints in the soft mud.<\/p>

Bran\u2019s Little Thought<\/strong><\/p>

\u00a0\u201cEvery story needs a beginning \u2014 and every beginning needs a safe place to dream.\u201d This is where your adventure starts, among the roots and branches. When your den feels just right, peek out between the twigs. Beyond the trees, the land starts to rise \u2014 that\u2019s Thurstaston Hill, and beyond it, the sea is waiting for us.<\/p>

\u00a0The sun leans low through the trees now \u2014 the kind of golden light that turns every leaf to fire. Our den stands quietly behind us, a small shelter of stories and sticks, waiting for the next explorers who pass this way. \u00a0Ahead, the ground begins to open. You can smell the salt before you see the sea \u2014 and if you listen closely, the wind carries both birdsong and waves.<\/p>
